Virgil Cooper started his turkey business back in 1938 with only 300 turkeys – mostly raising and selling them to his friends and neighbors. His business soon grew to include a turkey hatchery located in downtown Oakwood, Ohio. His original hatchery is now the Cooper Community Library, and Cooper Farms’ new hatcheries are located just outside of town.

Over the years, Virgil and Virginia’s three children Jim, Dianne and Gary have added much to the Cooper family business. Today the company includes two hatcheries, meat processing plants, egg processing plants, feed mills, and many helping hands raising our turkeys, hogs and chickens on our farms.

Cooper Farms is still family owned and operated today; the involvement of the Cooper family is what really enables the company to preserve a genuine family culture that permeates all levels of the company. The third and fourth generation family members can be seen working in many areas of the company including plant management, human resources, corporate development, special projects, caring for animals on the farm and working in the office.

Our Team Members

Cooper Farms believes family transcends genetics, recognizing that every member of their more than 2,000 person team is a part of the family. Each of these individuals play an integral role in the success of the company on a day-to-day basis. The Cooper family strives to maintain the small business values established by Virgil Cooper, while still being able to provide exceptional benefits in order to better care for their team.

Our Farm Family
